Math--Mrs. Lucht, Ms. Love, Ms. Dyer
We are entering the last part of the quarter for math.  We are currently studying division and enjoying it very much.  Today was estimation using three methods which are rounding, compatible numbers, and multiplication.  It is great to watch our mathematicians choose which method is their personal favorite.  Just a reminder that 5 AM tests are due by the end of the quarter.  If your student needs extra time we have math club on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 7:25-7:55. Also, there is homework club on Tuesday and Thursday night after school until 4:30 p.m.  We will be doing Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa story problems throughout this month. The students have a vocabulary contract which includes 12 vocabulary words having to do with division which is due December 7th.  Thanks for all you do to make your child succeed in math. Merry Christmas! Joy Lucht

Communication Arts--Mrs. Murray, Ms. Love, Ms. Dyer
We will be starting Unit 3 the week of December 3rd.  The week of Dec. 3-7 we will be reading the story Sleds on Boston Commons.   The students have been having a huge focus on writing, especially persuasive writing.  We will have our second quarter common assessment the week of December 17.  We Discovery Education tested on November 29.  We should have those results in a couple of days.

Science-Social Studies--Mr. Haight, Ms. Love, Ms. Meyer
Science -  We are starting the properties of elements such as weight, mass, density, buoyancy, etc.  We also will be studying the periodic table.

Math--Mrs. Lucht, Ms. Love, Ms. Meyer
This is the week we have been waiting for.  We are having Pumpkin Math October 31 on Halloween.  Please remember that they need their lids cut out and place back on their
pumpkin.  Leave the seeds inside.  We will be doing graphing, plotting pairs, weighing,
measuring, predicting, averaging. The pumpkins need to be here tomorrow.  It is a great activity to learn a ton of math.  Thanks to you parents for helping and for getting the pumpkins.  We are also starting algebra and working hard in class to understand variables and expressions.  The students will be experts soon.  Thanks so much for your support. Joy Lucht

Communication Arts--Mrs. Murray, Ms. Love, Ms. Meyer
We will be focusing on main idea and supporting details for the next couple of weeks.  We will also be spending each week doing a mini-writing lesson.  I have also found a great website that allows the students do do several vocabulary activities.  I will be using my jogtheweb account to set up weekly review activities.  The students can then practice at home if they have internet access.  This week we are using the topic of snakes to help us practice and create our own snake non-fiction summaries.  Next week we will go on a virtual field trip to Washington D.C. to learn about national monuments and civil rights memorials.  Students will also be needing to replenish their pencils.  Thanks for your continued support.
